Summer Learning

Devices and Summer Learning
We have decided that in order to prevent additional learning loss, we would like to offer some support and ask for your help this summer. If your child will be returning to Paauilo School next year, we will be allowing your child to continue to use their school device (computer or iPad and hotspot if you have one) for the summer. We are encouraging them to include one hour of work into your child's daily routine. 20-30 minutes of iReady Reading(K-9) or Achieve3000(Gr 4-8), 20-30 minutes of iReady Math(K-8) or ALEKS(Gr 7-8), and 20 minutes of reading a book of their choice will help them to minimize learning loss over the summer. Your child will also continue to have access to Acellus courses for the duration of the summer and is encouraged to utilize this resource.

We will be working on an incentive program to give positive reinforcement for students who show their commitment to learning by following through on these activities. We will be sending information about the incentives soon and welcome suggestions that parents and students might have.

If your child will be leaving Paauilo School, we will be collecting devices on Friday, May 28. Students who are attending school in person will return their devices while they are in school. Students who participated in distance learning this year and are asked to drop off their devices anytime before 4:30 pm.

Additionally, we will be running a very limited summer program for middle school students who need to do credit recovery in their core classes so that they can move on to the next grade level. We will also be offering a summer program for a small group of first-graders who are not quite ready for second-grade reading. If your child is being invited to these programs, you will be receiving a personal message from us this week.
Please contact Mrs. Barber at the school office or via ParentSquare if you have any questions.
